Literacy:

Tomorrow’s Stars is beginning some NEW projects to improve reading in the early grades and to enhance literacy throughout the schools.  We have teamed with the District Education Office and Sabre Trust (from the UK).

We will be developing a model that can be used in other schools in the district.

It begins with a library at Bantuma Government School in Elmina. There is already a new building with a room for a library.  It has no shelves or books or money for a librarian.  Tomorrow’s Stars is providing books and furniture. We will also pay Solomon Ewusie, an Edinaman HS graduate, former scholarship student, who hopes to be accepted at teacher training college, to help manage the first stage of the plan. (you know how much we love the win-win projects!)  It will begin as an after school library (2-4PM) in May.

Kathy is returning to Ghana in June for 10 weeks to assure the success of these important literacy projects. Follow her BLOG starting in June.

THERE IS MUCH TO DO.  PLEASE HELP BY SENDING A DONATION NOW.  EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS.

Edinaman SHS Scholars:

We now have 25 scholarship students at Edinaman, 16 are boarding there.  We are very proud of them and many are in the top 10 of their classes of nearly 400 students.  It is inspiring to see them grow up and believe they have control of their future.

They all send a big thank you for your support.

We have put 2 computers in the ESS library and continue to pay a prefect to keep it open in the evenings.  Justice Holison the prefect also serves as a tutor.  We continue to make improvements to the computer lab that include headphones for playing the "oral English CDs" and a toner printer to serve school needs.

Christ Cares School:

This month, 25 grade 9 students will be taking the BECE national test, we expect about 6-8 to achieve scholarships next fall.  The computer lab at CCP now has 7 computers and Ghanaian math, science and spelling software games to help younger students enter the computer age.
