Sound Foundation School
This
is a small primary school for class KG to Class 6 not far from Elmina.
They have dreams of a progressive school where the children are given a
"sound foundation" in the basics so they can excel in the higher
grades. It is hoped that they can keep the class size not much above
25 (the average class size in the government school is 60).
Tomorrow's
Stars first funded a much needed roof in early 2008 to keep the
children dry in the rainy season. In summer 2008 we funded a partition, a
couple of windows and some paint. We also purchased some text books
and reading books. While the volunteer teachers where in Elmina, they
worked with the teachers at Sound Foundation for a couple of days.
There is still much needed at Sound Foundation School.
In February 2009 we funded replacing the dirt floor with cement. In May, Sacred Heart School in San Francisco had a bake sale and raised over $700, enough money to allow tables and chairs to be built and painted and some books to be purchased! Next step, plaster the walls so they can be painted and decorated!
