SCHOLARSHIP STUDENTSIn Ghana, High School is not free. It is a shared expense between the government and the student.
While the fee for a day student is only about $125 a year, there are many students that need help with their share. If a student boards at the High School, the cost increases to around $450 a year.
Boarding provides electricity, food and a good environment for study with access to the library and computer lab. Tomorrow's Stars now has 25 students on Scholarship 16 are boarding.

RICHARD I. is a student that we have admired for a long time. His grandmother takes care of him as his parents have passed away. She has thought he should quit school since grade 7 and get work. But he begged and convinced an uncle to help. He was awarded a day scholarship last year as his grades were not good enough for boarding. He has worked very hard at his studies and on his last report card had 5 B's so we awarded him boarding starting next term and in a note he said "I screamed with frenzed joy" Did I mention he has a flair for drama??

FRANCIS W. is the youngest of 8 children. He excels in school. He comes from a small village in the district and scored a 7 on the BECE (lower is better---6 best) while most of the other children did not even pass. He has been elected protocol prefect. He places #1 in his class of 297.

ELIZABETH A. received a 8 on her BECE. She is studying General Arts as she hopes to become a broadcaster. She always has a smile on her face. She was elected Girls Asst Head Prefect.

BRIGHT D. thinks that knowledge is power. He is a graduate of CCPS and was awarded a day scholarship. He is studying Visual Arts.

DANIEL K. lives in a village west of Elmina and walked 40 minutes to school at CCPS. He was awarded a day scholarship and now has earned a boarding scholarship.

NADIA ABA A. is studying science and is doing well. She hopes to excel so she can continue to University and study for the medical field. She was awarded a boarding scholarship as she had one of the highest BECE scores at Edinaman. In year 3, Nadia ranked 3rd in a class of 297.
NOAH S. studies General Arts and is one of the best students in ICT.

FELIX M. was awarded a boarding scholarship as he had one of the best BECE scores but prefers to live with his aunts in Elmina. He rides his bicycle to school every day.

SYLVESTER KOJO F. comes from a small fishing village in the district. Even though the school he attended was poor and had little in the way of learning facilities he never gave up and achieved a 15 on his BECE test.

DORCAS E. has dreams of becoming a nurse. She the oldest and the only girl child so while we offered her boarding, her parents want her to live at home so she can help take care of the younger children. The headmaster worked hard to convince her parents that she should have her own life. He prevailed and now Dorcas is the #1 student in her total class of 357. Something that would have been next to impossible if she had stayed at home.

EMMANUEL KOFI A. achieved a score of 12 on his BECE test. He hopes to do well enough in science to become a doctor but he is very engaging and is very good in English so he may decide to become a journalist.

EMMANUEL E. has struggled to get his education as his father is too poor to pay his fees. A teacher saw his potential and paid his fees so that he could take his BECE exam. He received a score of 12 and was accepted at Edinaman. I think he will make the best of this opportunity.
